Shon: Howdy Wade
Shon: I have a couple questions about buying a Windows Machine over a Mac
Wade: Hello, welcome to Gateway.com. My name is Wade Whitmer and I will be your E-Sales advisor.
Wade: Sure how can I help?
Shon: How good is the new iMac like Profile better than a mac? and how is it for digital video editing
Wade: Oh my gosh
Wade: our system is sooo much better than the imac
Shon: but how is it better than the iMac?
Wade: it has excellent accessability for parts
Shon: ok,
Shon: What ports come on it
Wade: connectivity is better
Shon: Like USB? Firewire?
Wade: sure one sec
Shon: Why is the connectivity better
Shon: whats the maximum armount of ram
Wade: where the ports are located
Shon: that it can hold?
Wade: Shon
Wade: hold up
Shon: where are the ports located?
Wade: and let me answer one question at a time
Shon: ok
Wade: http://www.gateway.com/home/pr...ile.shtml
Wade: ok lets look at them
Shon: OK, i see it has the same size LCD as a iMac
Wade: max memory is 1024mb
Shon: A decent amount of Ram
Shon: But it doesnt have a DVD Burner like the Macs Have
Wade: max hard drive is 120g
Wade: you can do a combo drive for $100
Shon: And i have been talking to both Mac Users and PC Users and the Mac Users say you used a slowe version of Mac OS X
Shon: slower*
Wade: hahah I am sure they did
Shon: Does it have firewire?
Wade: yes 2
Wade: on the front
Wade: instead of hiding out in back
Wade: http://www.gateway.com/home/pr...fig.shtml
Wade: here look at this
Wade: we clock speed faster than the IMac
Shon: but some people say clock speed doesnt matter,
Wade: we have long term expandability and they don't
Shon: All it means is you can push data through faster..
Wade: hahah if they don't have it yes
Wade: which means you can process your application faster
Shon: but what about the 20 data pipes the Pentium 4 Has, as compared to the 8 that a PowerPC G4 Has
Shon: I am soooo confused!
Shon: All i want is a computer that is best for editing the Movies I make
Shon: Does Apple's final cut pro work on windows?
Wade: well I would argue then that you should be looking at a traditional system
Wade: but if you want an all in one
Wade: we really do stomp Imac at this time
Shon: i have heard that FCP is the best digital video ediotr
Wade: FCP?
Shon: Ok, so what kind of Traditional System would you recommend
Shon: FCP= Final Cut Pro
Wade: at least the 500x
Wade: oh hmmm I don't know enough about them to really have a good honest opinion
Wade: http://www.gateway.com/home/pr...ail.shtml
Shon: ok, so i was reading the PC Test you guys did against the iMac
Wade: take a look at this system
Shon: why didnt you use Mac OS X 10.2?
Wade: which one?
Shon: in your tests
Wade: we did
Shon: you had a Adobe Acrobat File
Wade: Apple always complains that we don't use their application and so we did and we still beat them
Shon: It says you used 10.1.5 and 10.0.4
Wade: which test are you looking at?
Shon: http://etestinglabs.com/main/reports/gateway.pdf
Wade: ahh I just went there
Shon: Whats the difference between 10.1.5 10.2 and 10.0.4
Shon: sorry 10.1.4
Wade: hmm that is a good question
Shon: and what kind of Warranty would come with my systems
Wade: one sec
Shon: I want to buy 3 of them
Wade: well the limted warranty defaults at 1 year poarts labor and support
Shon: But i want them to be the best for my Digital Video Creation (I make snowboarding and skateboarding videos)
Wade: but you can upgrade to 3 years parts labor and life of the system support
Shon: Do you have bigger monitors, or Dual Monitor supoprt
Shon: and video capture cards
Shon: and how many hard drives will the 500x hold?
Wade: hang on a sec again I need to do one thing at at time
Wade: Now the reason we didn't use the Mac OS 10.2
Wade: is that it was a test between a windows speed test vs a mac speed test
Wade: after all you wouldn't be running a mac os on a pc
Shon: why didnt you use OS X 10.2 on the mac though is what i aqm wondering
Wade: it wouldn't likely have made a difference but we couldn't tell you as the test was done by an independant lab
Wade: they chose the most comparable OS
Shon: Oh ok.
Wade: so there are many reasons for a gateway over MAC not just the speed of processing although that should be important
Shon: oh ok,
Wade: Now on the 500x you can have 2 optical drives
Shon: but if i was to buy a gateway would i suffer from a Blue Screen of Deasth
Wade: hahah no you wouldn
Wade: oh and the 500x could hold an internal zip if you needed
Wade: oh and 2 hard drives
Shon: So your saying i would have the blue screen of death in windows? what about a memory dump
Wade: XP is MUCH more stable than all previuos OS and you have better chance of winning the lotterey than having blue screen
Wade: We do have bigger monitors
Wade: when you are looking at video capture do you mean like dazzle
Shon: Do you have a 23" LCD Display
Wade: no we have a 22 inch
Shon: and will it suport dual monitors
Shon: Do you know how often a Macintosh Crashes
Shon: ?
Wade: hahah no I give how many
Shon: and does Windows XP have protected Memory
Shon: I dont know I was asking, if you knew.
Wade: haha no I am not way up on Apple products and performance
Shon: oh ok.
Wade: an upograded vid card can support dual monitors
Wade: one analog and one digital
Wade: or 2 analog with an $11 converter
Shon: ok
Shon: What about wireless networking, do i have the option of that or do i need cables
Shon: strung all over my office, so my wife can castrate me, when she sees the ugly cables all over
Wade: you can add the wireless adapter
Wade: hahaha
Wade: http://www.gateway.com/home/pr...fig.shtml
Wade: ok here is the customize page for the 500x
Wade: so you can see what changes are possible and how much they would cost
Shon: Ok, and is there an option for Zero Configuration Networking (The Computer Automatically recognizes any computer with in 50 feet of it? and can share data?)
Wade: this system has a DVRAM (burner)
Wade: It comes with Pinnacle 8.0 and Pinnacle express
Shon: Ok, and will Adobe Premere work good on it?
Wade: hmm it should one sec
Shon: And when Apple Releases the G5, will it be better to buy a mac or stick with windows?
Wade: There should be a pc version of it but I don't find it in our accessory superstore
Wade: Shon really I have to say I am partial so keep this in mind
Wade: BUT
Shon: Ok, I just want your opinions
Wade: with almost the entire industry making parts and software for a pc
Shon: I am not going to run to your Supervisor and tell him you Biased my Opinion.
Wade: I just can't imagine going with APPLE anymore
Wade: haha
Wade: no I just want to remind you that I know I am biased
Wade: It is sad because I hate to see monopolies
Shon: I need informed descisions from informed people, i dont know too much about computers, I do Digital Videos and use my computer to edit them, and check my emai
Shon: Do you know if there is a Microsoft Office suite for Mac OS X?
Wade: but these days it isn't true any longer that for graphics applications APPLe is strongest performer
Shon: or does this gateway come with office?
Wade: No there is not a mac version of Office suite, why would they make mac progams? Microsoft doesnt make anything for Mac
Wade: and all of our systems come with XP home
Wade: There of course aren't mac versions of windows
Shon: XP Home? I heard XP Home sucked more ass than a chinese crack whore, what about XP Pro do you sell that
Wade: haha yes we do sell it
Shon: Ok, and do you have a service like .Mac?
Wade: and yes like all OS releases it did have some bad press from techies
Wade: they of course were trying to make it do gymnastics it wasn't meant to do
Wade: No, We dont like to screw over our customers.
Wade: what is it?
Shon: ohh ok
Shon: Well I need to think this over some more,
Wade: sure no prob
Wade: I wish I was more help
Shon: Thanks for your help Wade, you have fun
Wade: hey you too
