Possible to recover iPod with serial # ?

I lost a silver iPod 4GB (3rd Gen)...I took a photo of it a while back which shows the serial # ...I'm wondering if someone finds it and uses it on iTunes if there's a way for me to know by just the serial #...thanks. :)

Unfortunately I don't think so, it wouldn't hurt to try calling Apple to find out though.
