My friend has one and wonders what value to put on it.
It's up for offer if anyone wants it.

It all depends on the size? 5,15,20GB which is it?
I would say:
5GB: 100-150 with accessories
15GB: maybe 200
not sure about or if they even made a 20GB, pretty sure they made a 15, but it might just be a 10. I am positive that they made a 5GB.

I believe they made a 5 and a 10 for the 1st generation and a 5, 10 and 20 for the 2nd generation. Anyway, here's a page with all of the current models (except the Shuffle) and each spec page has suggested value at the bottom. http://everymac.com/systems/apple/consumer_electronics/stats/ipod.html

I still have my 1st gen 10 GB iPod and since I'm such a loser... even the box and all the packing material which has sat in the same spot since the day it arrived in the mail (the box, not the iPod)...
I've never bought another iPod because of how infrequent I use this one but... iPod Shuffle just might... change my tune... ba dum dum... mainly because it's a memory stick and would be a nice way to get music to work from home since my work PC has no firewire port.

As much fun as it is to make dick jokes, their needs to be some clarification on the iPod's and their generation.
1st gen: only 5 GB
2nd gen: 5, 10, 20 GB
3rd gen: 10, 15, 20, 30, 40
mini: 4 GB
4th gen: 20, 40
Photo: 40, 60 GB
shuffle: 512, 1GB
If the poster has a 1st gen is must be a 5 GB model. Keep in mind both the 1st and 2nd gen's look similar though and can only be differentiated by the size (which of course does matter). They were released during different periods of 2002. Hope this clears things up. It would be simpler if we knew the size as that would tell us the gen...

perhaps you are mistaken. this is from that everymac.com web site posted above.
The iPod (1st Generation), introduced October 23, 2001 and discontinued July 17, 2002, originally shipped with a 5.0 GB hard drive and shipped with a 5.0 GB or 10.0 GB hard drive after March 21, 2002. The iPod (2nd Generation), introduced July 17, 2002 and discontinued April 28, 2003, shipped with a 5.0 GB, 10.0 GB, or 20.0 GB hard drive and a revised "touch wheel" that doesn't physically turn.
So according to them, the 1G is the only one with the wheel that phyiscally moved.
BTW: I have a 5GB 1st Generation iPod. it's still ticking, but i think i might be getting a 1GB shuffle for the gym.

I have clarified what I originally posted. The are not identical in looks (due to the wheel difference), but even in everymac's own description that you posted it says that it was originally only released in a 5 GB flavor. Later it was upped in size. Glad to hear that original is still working for you.
