Bluetooth iPad keyboard not linking

I have previously linked my new iPad with the new white blue tooth keyboard.

Today, however, with Bluetooth ON and teh apple wireless keyboard "now discoverable" ... and the green light is blinking on the keyboard ...
the iPad device continue to spin without recognizing the keyboard (and offering me the standard 'type in the code' message.

Is this operator error or do I have a Bluetooth problem. I've also tried another wireless keyboard and the same thing.
