Burning 6.7GB on a DVD

can anyone tell me how to get a 6.7G file onto a 4.7G disc. trying to get a movie on it. new user to mac and LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT. HELP!
 
What is the format of the movie? Where is it going to be used (on DVD player or copied to another computer etc)? You could encode it with HandBrake to make it smaller. Or you could buy a dual-layer DVD which can hold around 9GB IIRC
 
Why don't you go for 8.5GB Double Layer DVD, save you time, and the quality of the movie you're trying to burn.
