Hello guys

I have a iBook G4 notebook here with the following stats:

CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
CPU-Speed: 1 GHz
L2-Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 640 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot-ROM-Version: 4.77f0

Okay, now here is my problem: I want to upgrade the memory to 1GB and I really don't know which RAM-stick I'd have to buy. (there are so many different types out there ...)

Aaaaaand .... Is it possible to install Leopard on this old notebook without any problems? I'd need it for some work with Office and light photoshop stuff.

Can someone of you guys give me advice?

Thanks!

I have that same iBook and upgraded to 1.25GB of RAM via a 1GB stick of PC2100 DDR 266MHz 200 Pin Low-Profile 1.25" Memory, which can be found either at MacSales or Newegg or many other online vendors. 1GB should cost around 50 USD.

I did install Leopard on that iBook and it was a slower experience than Tiger, as Leopard requires at least a G4 with 867MHz, thus 133 more MHz don't really cut it.

Thank you but I've found this model (it's cheaper):

http://www.amazon.de/CSX-333MHz-SODIMM-iBook-PowerBook/dp/B000WF3NGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290287215&sr=8-1

Would that be okay too?

Da bin ich mir net hunderprozentig sicher, da Cyberport das folgende zu sagen hat und daher Amazon widerspricht:

Cyberport (http://www.cyberport.de/apple-und-zubehoer/komponenten/ram-erweiterungen/notebook/ibook/liste.html):

1 GB DDR-333 PC-2700 SO-DIMM - iBook, PowerBook, iMac
Art.Nr. 2502-281 [Herst.Nr.: MIMAC/1GBD3S]
Kompatibilität:
iBook G4 (Juli 2005 bis Mai 2006)
PowerBook G4 (12 Zoll) (September 2003 bis Mai 2006)
PowerBook G4 (15 / 17 Zoll) (Januar 2003 bis Oktober 2005)
iMac (September 2003 bis Juli 2004)

1 GB DDR-266 PC-2100 SO-DIMM - iBook, PowerBook, iMac
Art.Nr. 2502-284 [Herst.Nr.: .]
Kompatibilität:
iBook G4 (Oktober 2003 bis Juli 2005)
PowerBook G4 (12 Zoll) (Januar 2003 bis April 2004)
iMac (17 Zoll Flat Panel, 1 GHz) (Februar 2003 bis September 2003)

Und ich vertraue Cyberport mehr als Amazon, but that may be due to me buying a lot of gear from them.

Amazon (http://www.amazon.de/CSX-333MHz-SODIMM-iBook-PowerBook/dp/B000WF3NGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290287215&sr=8-1):

PowerBook 1GHz PowerPC G4 12.1” TFT 133MHz System Bus
PowerBook 867Mhz PowerPC G4 12.1” TFT PC2100 (266MHz) Variante

And this is what MacSales (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iBooks-PowerBooks/G4-iBook/) has to say:

1.0GB (1024MB) PC2100 DDR 266MHz 200 Pin So-DIMM
Upgrade for Apple iMac G4/1.0GHz 17" models; PowerBook G4 'Aluminum' 12" 867MHz & 1GHz Models, and iBook G4 Models prior to mid-2005.

1.0GB (1024MB) PC2700 DDR SODIMM 200 Pin Memory Module 128x64 CL 2.5
for PowerBook G4 'Aluminum' 12", 15" & 17" 1.5GHz or 1.67GHz Models, iBook G4 1.2/1.3/1.33/1.42GHz Models *ONLY*

As MacSales and CyberPort are more reputable in my eyes, I would not get the RAM you linked to, but the proper one.

I had Leopard on my 1 GHz iBook and it ran just fine. Slower than Tiger, but I like Leopard so much better. Certainly acceptable performance, given the machine.
