I have some 1080p videos that I would like to take screencaptures of, but the video files are bigger than my actual screen. Are there any good video capturing programs that take high-resolution photos of video-files? Preferably without purchase or watermarks. Thanks.

Open the movie in VLC Player and use the Video > Snapshot (Command + Option/Alt + S) option, it saves the picture to Macintosh HD / Users / YOU / Pictures as a .png file (vlcsnap-2012-12-21-11h11m11s11). I just tested it with a 1080P movie trailer (.mov container) on my 20" iMac with 1680 x 1050 pixel.
