new imac and mail reloading 3 years worth of mail!!

i just received a new imac and when i went to get my email, it is loading stuff from 3 years ago (16,127 emails)...

I've yet to solve the same issue, though my problem is erratic.

I currently have 25,537 unread emails WFT ! 😱

Maybe Rules can help you, as it allows you to mark older messages as read or even delete them, but if you use IMAP, it could delete the message from the server.
