iTunes Home Sharing

Why does the new iTunes 10.1 not display that home sharing is turned on in the side panel?
Also,why can I share my iTunes library on my iMac with my Macbook, but not on my iPad or iPhone over my WiFi network? There is nowhere to turn it on in these two devices. Is this possible?
