hi all, i dug up my girlfriend's 10gb 3rd gen ipod (with 4 control buttons above wheel), which she purchased used somewhere a while ago. it performs well enough, but the battery is sub par. i still need to time it, though. according to its tech specs,

battery life should be about 8 hours. i KNOW it is no where near that.

i've noticed apple charges an 'arm-n-a-leg' for battery replacement,

but i also found a site such as this one,

have many other diy-ers have success with third-party battery replacements?

any and all thoughts welcomed!

I'll say from experience that the battery on that model isn't difficult to change. The hardest part is opening the case without scratching it, but most battery kits come with the necessary plastic tools.

If you're not in any hurry, the battery replacement kits can be found cheaper on eBay.

thanks for the reply!

are there particular battery specs to ensure that i am purchasing and installing the correct battery type?

also, should i use a plastic shimm to separate the ipod's case?

cheers
