Old News. By the way, iRiver makes good products. I hate to see a good company stoop to something like this.

Somebody is smokin too much!

iRiver, the leading player in the industry, released its 20-gigabyte PMP-120 and 40GB PMP-140, both of which use HDD. Users can download movies from their desktops and have virtually unlimited access to the service, with a portable 3.5-inch LCD. The product can play continuously for four to five hours, and the price range is between W500,000 and W700,000.

We tried to find an entertainer easily recognized by men, and we selected Jenna Jameson. There was nothing else behind the decision."
Priceless.

Industry sources say it was a pragmatic move. "One cannot ignore people using the PMP to watch adult material, said one. I think they were targeting these customers when we hired a porn actress."
Really? You think?

It's a good thing they hired Jenna, because, otherwise, no one would have ever thought to stick porn on a portable player. Anyone else think it's funny that PMP (portable media player) would be pronounced either "pump" or "pimp"? Appropriate.

Edit: also like the "I think they..." followed by the "when we hired..." Ooops!

People pay and they suck.

And let's not be too hypocritical -- if I had something to peddle, I'm getting Christy Canyon! I'll bet a lot of you would, too.

An iRiver executive later revealed that he got the brainwave to hire Jenna Jameson after speaking to an iRiver user. The user revealed that the iRiver "sucked harder than Jenna Jameson" and "a light bulb just went off in my head," explained the wily executive "I'm still not sure what he meant but it must be a good thing, right?"

Sorry somebody had to the stooping...I'm only surprised it took this long.

...snip...Sorry somebody had to the stooping...I'm only surprised it took this long.

On the grounds of decency, I had to desist...PMP  Porn Media Player... Does it go to sleep after downloading?

Wish the partnership well, wonder who Creative's CEO going to use? just remember once you've made your bed.. :D

It just goes to show that a company will do just about anything, if they think it will boost sales. Although they should stop to think about the image that they want to project to the world.

WTF is wrong with putting her in an advertisment???

I don't get it

only in America... Coors TV ads and the skank dreamteam Spears/Aguilera are o.k., but some people get pissed when a tech company advertises with an adult movie star...

maybe email them to replace her with Pat Boone... ;)

WTF is wrong with putting her in an advertisment???Nothing. I was only outraged that the article's headline referred to her as a "porn starlet". She is, clearly, a porn star. Also, there was neither a direct link to a hi-res version of the ad, nor links to PMP-optimized pornography.

It wasn't the subject that bothered me, just the shoddy journalism.

She's so grim.
Darn these cross-Atlantic language differences. In the UK, does "grim" mean "physically appealing but likely to harbor nasty viruses"?

what amused me is them saying that that kind of device was likely to be snapped up by people intersted in the more risque video market (or, put another way, most of my mates at university), and so it made sense to hire someone who'd be recognised by these people.

My guess is that the choice of acronym was deliberate to go along with the advertising. Yes, it's humorous, but that doesn't mean I approve of such tactics.

Maybe because many people like me think equating portable media players with porn is distasteful, and therefore are less likely to want to give iRiver money for their products? Not everyone out there likes sleaze, you know. :)

Of course, Jenna only performs with her husband now (well, as far as men go), so it isn't sleeze, just a joyful and beautiful expression of physical love meant to strengthen their spiritual and emotional bonds. And make money.

Heh, and lots of it. I heard somewhere she rakes in around $15m a year
