Upgrading Firmware on G3 iMac for OSX

Tray loading Green and White iMac with 0S.8.6. with Apple iMac Open Fireware 3.0.f3 built.
I have upgrade the RAM so it meets the requirements for OS.X.
I am also in the process of installing a 40Gb Hard drive.

HOWEVER.....
I need to upgrade the firmware so I can installed OS.X onto it. How do I go about doing that?
 
I think you have to upgrade to OS 9.1 or higher before you can upgrade to OS X

actually installing the update is simple enough; download the installer and follow the instructions
