So I've ordered a new higher capacity HD from NewEgg after the old one got a little too full. Of course now I'm going back and realizing my CD/DVD drive is pretty much shot (just makes loud noises an ejects whatever you put in there). It's been this way for about 6 months, but I haven't done anything about it since I have had zero need for an optical drive (yay technology)

but now that I want to replace the HD, how can I use the install disc to put everything back into place? Will an external drive work if I can borrow one? (and of course I'm now realizing that applecare ran out last month :()

yeah u can install Snow Leo with a USB DVD drive.

good to hear... I'm only using Leopard either way.

...now to track down a portable optical drive. Will I have any issues getting the drive to work on a blank drive, or do I have to install the thing somehow ahead of time?
