Hi, I'm attempting to rip some old PC games using Disk Utility on my mac, however I got this error message when creating a DVD/CD image of a game:

Unable to create "untitled.cdr". (input/output error)

Does anyone know how I can rip an image of this or fix this error. Will any different software achieve this? Thanks!

Are they copy protected? If so, it might not be able to read them. Are the discs scratched? Look at Disk Utility's log (button on the right end of the toolbar) and see if there is more information.

It's quite scratched but the computer reads the disc and shows all the file contents

Yes, but perhaps the part of the disc that contains the file directory is intact, but other parts of the disc are scratched up and unreadable. Or, like I said, maybe it is copy protected.

Look at the Disk Utility log, it usually provides more info than just a failure message.
