What boots up faster, a 1.5 ghz Powerbook or a 1.2 ghz iBook? I ask this because i have the 1.5 PB and my friend has the iBook and his boots faster then mine.

I think the more ram you have the longer it takes to start up according to a PB manual i read.

How much ram does his iBook have?

512. But he has 256 from apple and then he has some other random stick of 256 that he put in himself. It's also not like he just beats me starting up. My pwerbook takes a good extra 20-30 seconds to start up totally.

How much free HD space do you have?

There are lots of little things that can affect startup time. One is an active internet connection. If you have an AirPort card in vicinity of a wireless network (or are hooked in via ethernet), it will take a moment to establish a network connection.

Other factors:

Drivers (for a tablet, mouse, etc)

Apps that launch on startup

Apps that access a network on startup

etc. etc. etc.

I have about 45 free gigs (80 gig drive). I don't have any apps to open on start up and no wireless. Also no input devices.

It could always be due to hard drive speed, specific things on the hard drive, or the installation of the OS itself. My Cube, at 450MHz, when I had 768 in it, booted ages faster than my 867MHz PowerBook with 640. Moreover, the Cube runs SDRAM, and the PowerBook DDR. Yes, hard drive speed is different, and there's a subtle ram difference, but it ended up with boot times that were miles apart.

The reason i asked is just because i want to make sure nothing is wrong with my computer.
