I've researched this for a few hours today. he instructions I find are not working. A friend gave me a workout video and i want to make a copy. How do you do this?

How to burn a DVD to a DVD?

Two downloads should work.
Anyway, if the DVD is not copyright protected (like almost all commercial DVDs are), then the first link applies.
If it is copy protected, you need Mac The Ripper (free, http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/14414/mactheripper) to copy the DVD to your HDD, then use Burn (free, http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html) to burn it to another DVD).

Yeah, that works, as it is the same method in my first link in my first reply. But it only works with NOT copy protected DVDs.
MACtheripper gave me this: Dummy VOB warning and Bad sector.
With the disk utility, it gave me "input/output error". UGHHHHH

Then the DVD is either damaged (unlikely) or uses a more modern copy protection scheme. You can try RipIt or FairMount or Mac DVDRipper Pro with that DVD and see, how far you come.
