I was wondering if "over the air" syncing was possible, specifically when i want to sync by ip4 contacts with my iMac's address book. Thanks.

Is there a way to wirelessly sync your ip4 with your iMac's address book?

I use MobileMe too, but if you don't have that G-Mail will do this as will most other e-mail systems. Just google "sync [your e-mail] with iPhone." The settings for e-mail and for the address book are usually the same setup.
