How to play the iTunes-Pepsi contest and never winSee, that'd be mildly amusing if the 47 animated gifs hadn't burned away my retinas.

A few decades ago, they used to sell soda in glass bottles. You would bring the empty bottles in to your local grocery store for recycling, and the bottles would be returned to the bottling company to be cleaned, sterilized, refilled, and resold.

As I understand it, plastic bottles can't be sterilized properly, so they cannot be reused. Hence, the "no refill" label.

Very obviously, the easiest way is to live outside the US. I can go to the store and pick up any bottle, and be sure not to win!

Yippie! :o

Ah, OK. You can still find glass bottles here if you look hard enough, but the vast majority of them are plastic. They don't say anything about refills though.

I've also noticed that some bottles say something like '5c refund when you return empty bottles in SA' (SA being South Australia) but I don't live in SA so I haven't really paid any attention.

Plastic Bottles taste like crap anyways.

Ice-cold Coca Cola from a good old glass bottle is about the best drink one can have.

A snarky kinda cynical humorous article... I love it!

Yep the best, right behind Pepsi, Mountain Dew, the entire line of Stewarts sodas, Dr. Pepper, assorted flavors of root beer not made by The Coca-Cola Company, and the rest of the soda that are actually in glass... then at the bottom Choke, er, Coke.

Coke is sh**! Worse... soda... evar! Like drinking moldy musty brown basement water.

PS Maybe the original original Coke which contained cocaine and 10X the caffeine (I'm not making this up) tasted better, though it probably didn't, but with those ingredients who'd care!?

Yeah, here in SA we can bring bottles and cans to recycling centres and get 5c per bottle/can. This encourages recycling, don't know why the other states don't do it.

I agree completely, they actually put different recipes in the different types of bottles apparently, which is really weird. The glass bottles are the best but by far the most expensive, although obviously they are good for recycling. Next come the cans which are also pretty good for recycling and a bit cheaper, then the nasty plastic bottles and finally the horrible stuff a mix of coke syrup and fizzy water stuff you get at bars, restaurants and cinemas etc.

Funny article, I would have thought pepsi would have changed the bottles as everyone figured out how to cheat last time. Although may be it was just those of us crazy enough to read this stuff.

I used to live in Zimbabwe, and the refund off of glass bottles can be up to a third of the cost of purchasing the drink. It applies to soft drinks, beer and wine. They also charge a deposit on the cases. (Not flimsy paper cases like the ones over here, but Strong Sturdy plastic crates)

It's brilliant, you never see empty bottles lying around, as even if you were idiot enough to throw one away, someone else would surely pick it up for some easy cash.

Also, if you're a heavy drinker like myself, it's always handy to know that if times get tight, you can always cash in the mountain of empty bottles that's in the gararge!

No problems with the retina. It certainly brought a big smile to the face and a laugh.

I live IN the US, and have the same problem. Not that it should make you feel better... I'm just sayin'. I have yet to ever see an itunes pepsi bottle. I've seen plenty with yellow caps, but those were for some NFL promotion that long preceded the FIRST one of these contests, and some of those are still on the racks here. So I hold little hope.
