I've had an external FireWire HDD case with a 911 chip in it for some time, it supports 48-bit (127 GB+) drives (even on my 8500 hehe,) but it is running version 3.7 of the firmware, according to the Oxford flash program.
I have verison 4.0 and I've flashed my 5.25" case to the new version, but I am holding off flashing my HDD case to 4.0 as I want to check here to see if 48-bit support is included in any version.

Don't want to flash to version 4.0 and find the standard 4.0 doesn't have it.

Also, I was wondering if 48-bit drive support is a limition of the bridge/ATA controller itself, or simply the firmware installed for the Oxford 911 chip.

Like, would buying an older ATA/66, etc. case enabled 48-bit drive support with new firmware, or are you limited to getting a new one with ATA6 (or whatever) support built in.
