OK, here is the story
I was going to get a base 15 inch powerbook
The superdrive option is $200. For $100 I can buy an external dvd writer on ebay and use firewire/
Also, the 5400 rpm 80gb drive is an option, but I can by a hitachi 7200rpm drive for just as cheap
Any thoughts on doing these upgrades on my own?
Thanks

Ram ofcourse would be upgraded by me also

First off, with the external DVD, you lose the portability of having everything in one package. Second, if you're considering cracking the case to swap for a faster drive, I'd think twice. It's a complete pain the butt, not to mention you'd void your warranty immediately. If you're thinking about an external 7200 drive, see point number one. It just depends on whether the portability of a laptop means more to you than having to drag around peripherals you could have inside. Just my $.02
