What are VLC tracks? I've never heard of that format. Can you control click on the icon and choose to open with iTunes?

I think everyone has heard of the program VLC, but it's just that, a program. Not a format AFAIK

I've know what VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) the app is but it's not a format. What format is the song? For example is it .aac, .mp3, .wmv etc.

It's the format that is of relevance. For example, iTunes doesn't handle .wmv but it can import it and convert it into a different format (the Windows version of iTunes anyway). To burn a song onto a CD playable in a CD player you're going to need to convert the song into a .wav or .aiff format, this can easily be done in iTunes. Have you tried importing the songs?
