I'm writing a paper that includes a brief history of the Mac, but there's one thing I'm still confused by: We had the Lisa, which used a GUI. Raskin, later on, envisioned basically a "simpler, cheaper Lisa." Steve Jobs got a team to see the Alto over at Xerox PARC, and incorporated ideas into the machine they were working on, but what order did these events occur? Steve was on the Lisa team at first, and went to the Mac team when he was thrown out. Was it the Mac or Lisa team that saw the Alto? Did someone at Apple have the idea for the GUI in the form they implemented it before seeing the Alto?

Obviously, I'm interested in this stuff since I've been on this forum before, but I've always been unclear about this particular piece of the story. Can anyone clarify?
