Hi everyone,
I am in the process of getting my first digital camera. I am pretty sure I have narrowed it down between two: Sony DSC-W1 and Canon Powershot A95. I realise that the Sony is really made to be a competitor to the Elph line, but they are pretty comparable in price, size, and features. For uses, it will be used for family photos, vacation shots, etc. Also, I will use it to take pictures of bike riding (BMX, so it needs to be quick), and maybe some artsy shots, experimenting with photography (so I need some manual controls, though I dont know what they do yet ). Lastly, I may want to put a fisheye and/or telephoto lens extension on it. Shots will mostly be "internet" shots, you know, normal shots one might post on a forum or a photobucket.com type of website. Some may be sent out to be professionally developed, in normal size. Physical size of the camera isn't really important.
The main thing that attracted me to the Sony is that giant LCD. Also, it is a tad cheaper then the Canon (especially when you factor in the included batteries/charger). My main goal is image quality, everything else is secondary.
I have a Sony digital camcorder, and I have been very happy with it, and that Carl Zeiss lens sure is nice. The Sony also is smaller, which adds points to it also.
The things that give the Canon an edge is the swiveling LCD, a more proven track record, and I know for a fact that there are a wealth of lenses for it. Are there lenses for the sony?
One more thing, movie mode means almost nothing to me.
If anyone has any suggestions or experiences with either one, please let me know. If you know of another camera that fits the bill, also let me know.
Thanks!
