Well damn it, I don't want to become one of those "cyborg-things"... :D
Honestly, sometimes these people don't know when to stop... Though I have to point out that the iPod most of the times alienates people from the "outer world". So much that for me, a way of showing people some respect is to take one of the earbuds out of my ear when talking with someone. If the conversation gets really interesting, then I hit pause and take out the other earbud. (Conversely, the obvious way of showing no respect or interest whatsoever is to keep listening to my stuff like always... I don't know if people get it, though, but I don't care either  )
These hierarchical levels of attention make me feel like some techno-freak, IMHO... :p And when I, for some reason, forget to take out one of the earbuds I keep screaming at everyone without even noticing it. Hey, it doesn't make you look like a cyborg, but more like an a**hole :D
