if this isn't a clue for apple to get of their feet and give us a 19-20 LCD at MWP then I don't know what is. the numbers speak for themselves. they look just as good as apple's LCDs, they have the same 2 port USB hub in the back. I know if they don't upgrade their monitors before end of september im going with formac. sorry apple

Too bad the Formac isn't a wide-aspect ratio like the Cinema. :(

If you're thinking just in terms of workable pixels (rather than actual display area), a tasteful piece of sticky tape could make it into a widescreen display with the same number of pixels as Apple :D

Slightly off topic...are there other non-apple moniters that support macs (that is they use ADC)?

Besides Apple, Formac's the only one that's got an ADC connection. All the rest are DVI or VGA. :)

I agree with edvniow on that one.
It's not the size as such, it's the aspect ratio and dpi.
a 22" 16:9 ratio monitor with a 1600 x 1024 resolution is going to be far easier on the eyes than a 20.1" 12:9 ratio monitor at 1600 x 1200, every 21" CRT I've ever used at 1600 x 1200 has seemed too high res to be confortable to stare at all day and I've dropped it down to 1280 x 960 to be bearable. That's a trinitron screen with an 85hz refresh rate aswell, not some bargain basement monitor either.
I know LCDs are going to suit some people more than others but if anything I'd still go for a 22" apple LCD over the formac if the prices were a little more in my range at least.

i believe that formac is the only brand. personally i think the style of formac displays come very close to being apple displays withouht the apple logo branded on them. the only issue is the widescreen factor. eventhough the 22 cinema really is 16x10 i don't mind formacs 5x4 ratio. the rest of numbers speak for themselves

yeah but a 21' CRT does not have 20.1 viewable. You need to go for a 22' CRT to have 20 inches in screen room.
also if the 17' iMac can be 1440 by 900 then 1600 by 1200 wont kill the formacs vision with three extra inches.

Wow, I'm impressed with the contrast ratio...500:1! And the pixel response...very good. Heck, when I said before that I'd rather get two 17" studio displays than a 22"? I changed my mind...I'll take two of these!...its even better than the 23" cinema display! For the same amount of money...well sorta. Of course, I myself need a bit more money...:(

Do you work for Formac?;)
That's a great monitor...and Apple has definitely been resting on old tech in their LCDs...
I say a refresh across the whole line is in order.

I think they'll want to eventually trim the edges on their LCD's
I'm looking to move to at least dual 17" LCD's someday and I like what companies like Sony and Nec are doing with their Thin Frames
Gimme two of these side by side

That NEC on'e nice. I just wish their dead-pixel policy was a little better. :(
