Hi,
Can Apple TV (jailbroken) play .sub files?
I recently started using PS3 to watch movies because my macbook air gets hot too easy and video playback gets choppy. However the PS3 can not view .sub files only .srt. Half of my movies use .sub files. I spent a few hours looking into looking for software to change .sub to .srt files but all the programs only support .srt like roadmovie, handbrake, etc.
So the MAIN thing i wish to have is:
One system able to play all my movies.
Can Apple Tv do this? If not, is there something that I can use instead? Thank you very much

A .sub or .srt would not be compatible with .m4v containers used by iTunes and the AppleTV. You would have to use a program like Subler to import the subtitle data into the .m4v container for each movie.

Every movie I get I convert to .m4v and load into iTunes for viewing on AppleTV. Works great.

Yep, use subler to mux in the .srt. The m4v (aka mp4) will play just fine on the ATV2. No need to jailbreak or re-encode just for subtitles.

The Apple TV has a problem with Unix style linefeeds. In practice this makes most subtitles useless as it never displays the second line.

Hey I am not talking about .srt i am talking about how to watch movies with .sub files. That is the problem for me. I can only watch half my movies on my PS3 because it can only view .srt files. That's why I am wondering if Apple TV will solve this issue or what other item can do this for me that isn't a htpc?

The only way to use a .sub is to burn it into the file with something like Handbrake. That's what I do for forced subtitles or foreign language films.

If you only have .sub, then try downloading the .srt from a subtitle site like subs.to. Then mux it into your mp4/m4v using subler.
