I traveled this weekend to California. I live in Oklahoma (the midwest) and Gas prices in my city is about $1.50. When i went to LA, Gasoline was above 2 dollars! I am really curious on what prices are around the U.S and i am especially interested in Britain and other countries prices.

I searched and came up nothing so here you go.

Hahaha, what sort of sick joke is this?

Oil is pumped out of the ground only a few miles from me, and refined just a few miles further down from these same oil wells, yet California seems to have the highest gas prices in the country!!!

The Shell station on the corner near me has it for $2.09, but when I filled up in Las Vegas a few days ago it cost me $1.87

94.9¢/Per litre, in South Sydney. You Americans think you are paying too much for fuel, spare a thought for us Aussies, especially me with this car (www.ford.com.au/territory).

As another Oregonian, gas prices range from around $1.65/g to $1.97/g depending on where you are (the latter price is from a downtown Portland gas station). This is for 87 octane btw.

Since I don't drive that much, I have trouble keeping track of price fluxuations...a few months back gas was over $2 in the city, but I also remember seeing it around $1.49 or so a few weeks back.

I am about to move across the country, so I will keep track of this thread to get an idea of likely costs (I will be traveling through CA, AZ, NM, TX, NV to name a few). People in those states, give me a head's up...

The US Gallon is smaller than the imperial one. There's 3.785 Litres in a US Gallon and 4.546 in a UK Gallon. So your price is nearer $6.30 a US Gallon.

lol dont have a car yet, but gas is, when i checked this weekend, about 1.85 for regular, 1.95 for plus, and 2.05 for premium, varying by about 5 cents depending on what brand. we usually have like some of the cheapest gas in texas, iirc, but it's still exorbitant!

Here in Humboldt County, CA (on the North Coast) gas is 2.23 a gallon at the stations and about 2.15 a gallon at Costco. It did dip to 1.99 just after Christmas.

this mornign I paid 1.98 for regular in Tanytown, then when I got to Westminster(7Miles south) it was 2.05 for regular.

Where I am moving to in two weeks its 1.84 (at least it was two days ago).

In West Tokyo, it's ¥117 per liter, which is about US$4.23/gal. There are reasons why Japanese cars have small engines.

That's for sure (and we pay more in South Australia than you do :D).

The petrol price is about $1 a litre at the moment, which is around 2.92 USD per gallon. Not as bad as the UK though :p.

$1.87 at the cheapest gas station in the area, it is always packed. Luckilly, I drive a vw w/ the fuel thing on the right (they are rarer, so there is always a spot). Also, good thing it's on the way home from work. I think it's $2.00/89 octane gasoline & $2.30/diesel on the highway.

There are also websites with info like this:
http://www.gaspricewatch.com/
http://www.gasbuddy.com/
... and some localized ones too:

edit:
Just in case http://www.newhavengasprices.com was a little bit cryptic, these prices are for the Connecticut shoreline (specifically, New Haven -> 30 miles east)

Here in Honolulu Hawaii the average prices are $2.32 for 87!!!! $2.42 for 89 and $2.52 for 92!! Yes that is Per Gallon and in USD. On the neighbor islands they may pay as much as $3.00 a gallon. Hawaii has the most expensive Gas prices in the U.S. by far. Cost of living here is by far the highest as well. Only few places in the U.S. can rival Hawaii's cost of living but these are usually just Certain cities like Manhattan and SF not a whole state. Life here is very expensive in almost every way imaginable but at least Apple products cost the same here so life could be worse.

On my island, Whidbey Island, prices range from $1.799/gal to $2.089/gal. When I take the ferry to the mainland the prices just north of Seattle are anywhere between $1.709/gal and $2.119/gal. Biggest change I've seen is a 76 on one corner being $1.899, and the 7-Eleven/Citgo Kitty-corner to it was $1.799.

This is for Regular Unleaded (87).

Diesel prices vary even more, some places it is $1.999/gal, others it is $2.309/gal.

in West Michigan, prices have been between $1.98-$2.09 USD for a gallon of regular gas for the past two weeks. Once in awhile it will dip for a day to $1.88 or some such, but get it fast because it never stays long.

Amen to all of that. I went in to buy a gallon of milk at a grocery store in Hawaii Kai (a suburb of Honolulu) and it was $8.00  If anyone can beat that I would be very surprised.

Put 66.4 litres of unleaded in the car yesterday for £0.76 a litre. Or about $5.38 a gallon (US).

As far as I'm concerned it's a reasonable price, until recently I was paying £0.84 a litre - just a pity I only get 15mpg out of my car commuting to and from work every day (combination of automatic gearbox, large engine and high horsepower), I need a good highway run to see anything close to 30mpg.

i don't have a car but it's around 0,95€ for normal (and down to 0,83 for diesel) but if you go for premium you might easily go over the 1€ pbarrier...of course per liter

and yes even at ~4,7$/a gallon the germans are still driving across our border for filling up their tanks ...

edit: and i'm perfectly fine with that...more taxes for cars all they way please....

It's pretty expensive in Seattle, where I work. It's about $2.09 last I checked, and going back up for some reason (was below $2 for awhile). So I always fill up near home. I payed $1.65 at a Chevron in town on Saturday. The AM/PM is back up to about $1.71. I thought oil prices were going down (and yes, I'm old enough to remember when paying over a dollar seemed like a lot, I'm sure some of you can beat that), but hey... at least I don't live in Europe. Gas prices are outrageous there.

I'm about to make a trip in my car down to CA, and back up in another one. I mapped it out last time I drove, so I only have to fill up about 4 times, and I know roughly the cheapest places to do so. It's still going to cost me a pretty penny, and about a 20 hour drive, but it's worth it. Hopefully gas prices start to etch back down a bit before Feb. 22.

Oil prices are only part of cost of gas. Most of the time gas is controled by how much refined product is out there and how much is being made. (indirctly controled by oil price). A good example of this is a few years ago with gas price made a huge jump. Several of the refining planets where not making money off of the gas (high oil cost and low selling point of gas) It was getting close to the time when several Planets Units will shut down for a time while they do maintainces and other work that needs to be done.
Well what end up happening was several planets desided to shut down a little earily due to the fact they are loosing money on it and they needed to the turnaround any how. Problem was a lot of planets end up doing this and 5-10% of the nation refining capicitiy all went off line at the same time. Now you a shortage comes into play prices go sky rocketing. What I though was sad is everyone wanted to sue the oil compainy for price fixing and if you knew the real story behind it, it was cause more by luck and the prices should of been up there any how because of the cost of oil at the time. There was just a few month lag. The oil companies did not get fined and where not guilty of wrong doing. It just happen to be that because they where not making any money they did some stuff a little earily that orginal planned.

In the end I will say I miss the days when I could fill up my car for under 1 buck a gallan back when I first start driving. Then prices go way up then back under a gallan. Now I just happy if I can get the to grade gas for under 2 bucks a gallan.

Hmm, check out this page for US gas prices (http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgas_index.asp). In SC where I'm at atm prices are around $1.78. Went up about 3 cents in the last week.

As for you europeans I feel sorry that your government sucks all that extra tax out of your pocket.

It's been hovering just under $2/gallon around here for a while now. I can't even fill my car up for less than $20 :(

And you guys in the UK have no one to blame for your prices other than yourselves. :p

Here in Miami the gallon is $1.98 I think.

But in Venezuela I can fill up the entire tank of my car for $1. I mean, the gallon may be at 5 cents or something like that. :o

That is the advange of seeling the oil barrel at almost $40, you paid your oil and our gas too :D

The down side is that the cities are is so poluted, too much oil wasted beacuse is so cheap, the gas is cheaper than the water.

AU84.9c/L in Brisbane last time I filled up, but it has jumped as high as AU98.9c/L in the last few days ( a year ago, the prices were in the 70's most of the time) - thats about $US2.48/gallon and $US2.90/gallon respectively. And that's only for "normal" unleaded petrol - premium unleaded can be up to AU10c/L extra. Diesel prices vary a fair bit - sometimes it's the same or a little lower than "normal" unleaded, other times it's as high as the premium unleaded. LPG is around 45c/L at the moment (or $US1.31/gallon).
I've seen differences of up to 14c/L between petrol stations near each other before. And also, prices at the same station fluctuate by up to 10c in a small space of time (like one price when you drive past on your way to do your shopping, and another on your way home around an hour or 2 later).

Well, I blame successive Governments. Increasing tax on petrol (gas) is just too easy for them. In the annual budget, it's always the same things - petrol, booze, cigarettes - that get small tax increases on them. Personally, I don't really mind that much (perhaps I'm just too used to high taxes).

I can usually fill up my car with 45 litres (11.8 US gallons) for around £35 or so - approximately $66. I can get around 370 miles out of a tank if I'm careful, which works out at around 8.2 miles/litre, or just over 33mpg (US) or 37.5mpg (Imperial/UK).

I was in Iceland back in September. Gas/diesel prices are broadly the same as in the UK. Iceland has no oil/gas reserves of its own, so it has to import everything it needs.

This was the first thing that jumped out at me. Scared me there for a minute. :p

And yes, thank you, I know it is more than just oil prices. I just needed to vent because of those darn, greedy oil companies. ;) I'd buy an electric car, but ironically, they're too expensive. My next car (one of the reasons I'm going down there) is going to have better fuel economy, and hopefully my next job is less of a commute.

I'd fly down, but, well, that's a whole other rant about those darn, greedy airlines. :D

In Germany it's around $1,35 a liter, turning it into $5,20 a gallon. In Iceland it's just a little bit less, but Diesel is just about half that price.

You Americans might think these prices are sick. But driving in San Francisco, seeing all that traffic, all those big but empty cars, the never used but "so-cool-gotta-have-that" pick-up and the people that turn their cars on an hour before they drive as they want it "cozy" make me even sicker.

By the way, does anyone know how to convert liters for 100 km into miles per gallon. A website that has a converter for that would be really cool.

By the way, does anyone know how to convert liters for 100 km into miles per gallon. A website that has a converter for that would be really cool.As seems to be the trend, you can quickly find this out using Google.

Search for say "12 kilometres per litre in miles per gallon" and see how easy it is.
