My friend gave me his iphone 3gs. I plugged it into the computer, itunes opened and it began to recover. When it's just about to finish it gives me the error 1015.

Error 1015: This error is caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple.

Can someone please help me with this?

I'm having the EXACT same problem. I've tried everything and I just can't get past this pesky 1015 error message. :( If you come across something, would you mind posting it? Thanks. :)

Perhaps if you could tell us what you are trying to do. You say that you plug it in and it starts to "recover", that doesn't make sense. Are you trying to restore it, are you trying to upgrade it, are you trying to sync it?
The only thing that it will do when you plug it in without any other interaction is sync, and you can stop that.

I did a quick site search for "iphone error 1015" using Mroogle and I came up with so many hits that it would be impossible to paste them all in this post. Give it a try...

If your phone won't turn on you might try and hold the home and power buttons at the same time and see if you can force a reboot. You may have to hold them down for 30 seconds or more, until the white apple appears.
