I know this has been discussed in numerous forums for a long time, but has anyone found any solution on this? Where the new Apple TV will sort by show and not by individual season?

No solution yet. What your seeing is where the ATV1 was a couple of years ago. Hopefully the next OS update will catch up to where it was.
This new sorting scheme irks me too. I also noticed that they need to fix the way it handles TV show artwork. It takes the artwork from the first episode in a season, and uses it for the rest of that same season. Some shows (ex. MST3K) have different artwork for each episode.
...and don't get me started on alt audio/subtitle tracks, that I have tagged, all showing as 'English' when selecting them.
