Absolutely not, as Steve Jobs said "It's a bad place to be right now"

Maybe not a PDA, but an iTablet would be nice. :)

Heck NO!!!!! My iPod is on the way, it will have my contacts and calendar on it. That, scrabble, and dope wars is all I use(d) my palm pilot for.
If anything, they need to release a PocketMAC. iTablet, whatever. I don't want a lame palm os wannabe. I completely agree with Steve that the PDA market is DEAD. For the price of a top of the line Palm, you can get one of the new bluetooth telephones. I would rather have that then a PDA.

I'm really surprised all the Apple PDA zealots haven't come out of the woodwork to flame me on this one... :D
I don't think they're gonna get back into it...at least not in a traditional sense... ;)

Do you REALLY have to resurrect this thread just to say that?
well they kinda already are with the iPhone:eek:
LOL, look at the date.
When this poll was posted, Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar" is the newness, and there's still many people saying that OS X sucks and OS 9 is the way to go.
HA, how times has changed!

I guess the 'in-time-out' labeling pasted on the resurrector pretty much explains it!!

Wouldn't you consider the iPhone or iPod Touch a PDA? Offers everything a PDA would....

This thread is from 2002. Please stop bumping it needlessly.
Similarly, I found a blurb from a newspaper published in 1890 asking whether the common man would have any use for a telephone, but I resisted the urge to respond to it. ;)

EDIT: Sorry mkrishnan - just read your post........oops.
Why? The Smartphone has taken over the duties of the PDA, so why have two seperate devices to carry around when the iPhone is one of the best smartphones out there?
More to the point, what does a PDA do that the iPhone doesn't already? (excluding having the ability to edit a document/spreadsheet).......which would be solved if the rumors of Microsoft brining a mobile version of Office to the iPhone.

They used the search features of Mac Rumors..... like every wannabe mod screams about.

Sorry, didn't see that.
Umm, maybe they should close it since it's not really relevant anymore.
Did you try reporting it to the mod that already knew it was open and inform him/her to close it?

I think others here make the point well... The iPhone or iPod touch ARE basically the New Newton.
I can't see how you could make it significantly different and still be easy to use and have that Apple "streamline" functionality.

Oh, oops. Didn't see the mod's message.
Sorry about that. Pretend this thread didn't happen, I guess.

Don't worry, the mods haven't closed it yet, so I don't think it's a big deal to them.

You should see this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=697786) about how the iPod Touch makes a rather poor PDA to some members.

Hmm, PDA? No.
But consider a device roughly the size of the Newton 2000/2100.
Give it an intel N270 "Atom" processor, 1-2 gigs of memory.
Throw in an iPod style Touch screen, wifi, 3g, a 32-64Gb MINI PCI SSD.
And an optimized version of Mac OS X.
And yeah, an updated version of the Newton handwriting recognition software.
I think you could sell that!
