Help! usb keyboard and mouse troubles

Ok so i have a early 08 MacBook and i have been using it on my 42in vizio. I have had my usb powered mac keyboard and mighty mouse hooked up and suddenly tonight they didn't work. I looked in the system profiler and they recognized they were there, however my keyboard won't type anything and my mouse will not move the cursor.... any help would be greatly appreciated. I've also tried shutting down and restarting but nothing has worked. Thanks

Question. Does the resetting suggested have to be done each and every time I boot up my laptop? After about an hour or so, I am losing access to my mouse and sometimes my keyboard but always definitely my mouse.

Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated. This has gotten pretty old. I'm about ready to chunk this macbook.
