Since I am too dumb to know if I'm being stupid
I need to ask the collective brain trust at Macrumors
This question:
Is it worth saving $184 to buy a 12" 1.33 powerbook
rather than getting the latest greatest 1.5 version?
I don't care about bluetooth, but will I spend more on memory
upgrades than I am saving? (I will be working with huge scans
of 5x7 negatives in photoshop). Maybe a little video here and there...
If the new case is built better, that would be a consideration. The ibooks
feel more robust/resilient to me
Thanks all

For that $184 you don't just get the speed bump, you get the faster drive (5400 vs the old 4200RPM), and more RAM I believe. All of which will help no end towards better performance in Photoshop. I'd say it's worth it.

For that $184 you get:
faster processor
more ram as stock
possible bto's, should you want them
the new HD falling technology
the new trackpads
better speakers, a new third one is now on the 12" PB
BT 2.0, even if you won't use it... ;)
Faster HD as standard? (someone correct me if I am wrong)
iLife 05! (I don't think this comes with the older PB's, again, waiting to be corrected :))
I say pay the extra, get the latest and greatest thing, you never know when you could need that BT 2.0... :D
Beaten to it...

Thats the new feature, similar to those found on IBM thinkpad laptops. It senses quick movement of the harddrive usually associated with dropping or falling.
So it shuts down the harddrive so it doesn't get wrecked with it falls.
Pretty useful. Especially if you're a clutz like me.

Every 12" PB has had the three speakers, that's not new. But you guys are right, th extra $184 is worth it. Only thing is I wished the 512 came as one stick, so you could then put in another gig and have 1.5Gb total. They only give you 2 256mb on the 12".

Thanks all!
I just called to switch my order to the new model and they told me my order was already being processed, but that I could send it back unopened and get the newer model. Of course the guy offered to take a smidge more off (60 bucks). I guess I'll wait until the unit arrives before I decide. I guess I'll be double triple guessing myself for 3 more days!
Thanks again for all your help stoking my OCD tendencies

Musically Inclined?
You’ll be glad to hear that the new 12-inch PowerBook G4 features built-in stereo speakers with an enhanced midrange third speaker, stereo headphone output jack, stereo line-in and an internal microphone.
Ok, enhanced, fine.. :p
