Laptop and Desktop computer sellers are allowed to sell Sandy Bridge systems as long as the SATA 300 ports are not used. This is due to request from various computer sellers to sell "defective" Sandy Bridge CPU's.

I never understood the big deal out of it. Just ignore Sata-300 you won't notice a big thing. Laptop makers can just use the SATA-600 ports also.

But not sure if Apple is willing to do the same as other computer makers.

What do you mean?

Intel CPUs are not affected; only Intel Sandy Bridge 6-series chipsets - parts of the motherboards - are affected.
