iOS Loading data files into IPad thru iTunes

I understand that when I install an app into my IPad thru iTunes, the app creates its own home directory. And when I transfer data files from my MacBook to that app's home directory thru iTunes I think they are going into that home directory. Question: where do those data files go ... at the root or in /documents or /tmp?
