DVD Player problem

I've been watching the Band Of Brothers series on DVD and all was going well until I reached the final chapter (6) of Disk 4 Part 7. The drive is a SONY DVD RW DW-D22A which has worked fine both with and without patchburn in a dual 2.5 powermac. When the disc reaches this point, about 1 hour 2 minutes in it stutters, grinds to a halt and usually crashes. I thought at first it was the disk but it plays fine my powerbook and sometimes even in the sony drive. I suspect it is there fore hardware. As the drive has been working fine at other times could it be a heat issue. I had watched 4 hours of material previous to this without a problem. What i don't get is why this particular point would prove such a problem?
Anyone else had similar problems?

Looking through it appears more than one disk has had issues but the 4th one is the worst.

Well I don't know if this will help at all but the messages that say ASC or ASCQ followed by a hexidecimal number are SCSI sense codes (I know the drive is ATAPI, but they are still SCSI sense codes) that basically mean what the text descriptions next to them say - unrecoverable read error, I/O error, end of data, that sort of thing. Basically the data is not being read properly off the disc.

If the disc works on other computers, and if more than just this disc have problems, it's almost certainly a drive problem. Have you tried skipping past the 1h2m mark in the movie? If the rest of the movie plays, it is possible that there is a flaw on the disc at a certain point which some drives can read but to which your drive is especially sensitive (with more than one disc? unlikely). Also you could try shutting down the computer, letting it cool down, booting back up, and beginning play at the 1h mark to make sure it's not a heat issue. Otherwise it is likely a firmware defect or hardware malfunction, and you might want to call Apple about it. Good luck

Sadly it does look like the drive. It is strange though because I made an image of the DVD using the drive and it read it fine then and the result plays without problems. As the drive isn't an apple shipped one (I got it because I need dual layer support for the DVD's I create) I will probably just have to have the unit replaced, which is a real shame because other than the reply problem it has been fine.
