Which would you rather have if everything else in the computer was the same?
ie bus speed, ram, hard drive. and same price:
1 2 gzh G4; 2 1 gzh G4s; or 4 500 mzh G4s.
Please don't complain that there isn't a 2 gzh G4, this is hypthetical.

I would like to have a single 2GHz G4. Just having a dual 1GHz or a Quad 500MHz doesn't really mean you are getting 2x or 4x (respectively) the processing power. I think you actually get less.
There was a discussion a while back that discussed how quad processors only give you a double performance increase.

The 2ghz G4. As KC said, dual and quad don't really double or quadruple performance.

Assuming that the 2 GHz G4 was available, there really isn't a question which one to take.
And given that it was available, I'd spring the extra money for a dual 2 GHz.....

This isn't really a matter of "preference", is it? It's just a matter of sifting through the marketing BS and comparing benchmarks.
Most of us here know that a single 2 ghz G4 (if such a thing were to exist) would be faster than a dual 1 ghz. Apple tries to spin it otherwise but we know better.
A better comparison:
1. Single 2.0 ghz G4
2. Dual 1.4 ghz (2.8 ghz "combined")
3. Quad 0.9 ghz (3.6 ghz "combined")
