Cowon S9 reformat

Hi,

I have a Cowon S9 mp3 player.
I haven't plugged it into the macbook yet and I was wondering if I will have to reformat it to use it with snow leopard.
If it does have to be reformatted will I still be able to transfer music from and to windows machines or will it then be mac only?
