I picked up a little scruffy iMac G4 700mhz off eBay the other day, I knew it had no optical drive in it, but I wasn't prepared for it having no bracket in there either!! So the guy was running it with the HD sitting on top of the ribbon cable which must have been flopping about all over the logic board ....

What could I do to safely attach the HD out of the way?? I'm no expert so I don't really know what's safe to use inside in terms of electricity and flammability!!

Any help would be appreciated

Search eBay for replacement carrier or look for whole dead iMac for parts on your local Craigslist. It would be the best solution IMHO. Or you can try to make a custom carrier if you have needed skills and tools.
I see 1.25 in your sig, so you know how this part looks like.
