so it appears that apple has discontinued java in 10.7, anybody know a way to install 10.6.3 java update in 10.7? or perhaps a 3rd party workaround?

No, they deprecated it. Java is still available for Mac OS X, 10.7. I'm running Zend Studio, based on Eclipse on 10.7.
ct2k7 how were you able to get java for 10.7? i checked the java links in the developer section and all i can find is the 10.6.3 combo?
If you have a valid ADC account, you will be able to automatically download Java from Software Update from Java Preferences. (Or so I've read elsewhere.) If you pirated it, you apparently can't do this.
weird, i opened java preferences and java for mac 10.7 began to download. after it finished installing i tried opening my java program but it still says java not found. java preferences still only shows the last build at 1.6.024-b07-329. any ideas?
That error is caused by 32/64 bitness problems. Change the default to the 32-bit JRE in Java Preferences, instead of the 64-bit one, and try again.
A little late to the thread but on the GM build just launch Java Preferences and it'll start downloading.

Remember to put a check in the box next to "Enable Applet Plug-in and Web Start Plug-ins" in /Applications/Utilities/JavaPrefrences. Also You can Drag the 64 bit or 32 bit to which ever order you prefer the browser to look for first.
This is what Oracle told Me:
We haven't certified the E-Business Suite with Mac OS X Lion clients yet, for the obvious reason that it was just released today. For the time being, our official recommendation is that Mac-based end-users who need access to the E-Business Suite should stay on Snow Leopard.
We'll publish instructions for Lion users as soon as we complete that certification. Stay tuned.
