earbuds with inline remote and NO microphone?

Long story short:

I work in a secure building, we can have iPods (certain models) but no microphones. Obviously that means the iPhone style earbuds with the remote and mic are out of the question.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an inline remote earbuds without the mic?

Passive speakers like earphones can pass audio in the opposite direction as well. The iPod has no transmission capabilities, but if the goal is to prevent the compromise of sensitive information you shouldn't even be allowed to have electronics in the first place.

How is it not relevant? I plainly stated that passive speakers can be used as microphones. It's in the first sentence. Are microphones restricted or not? If so, you should not bring passive speakers into your workplace.

Yes, technically you manage to be correct in answering a question that no one was asking. You should have mentioned that any flat surface can actually be turned into a microphone with the proper PZM technology so that you really could have chalked up an obnoxious internet win for yourself.

So, according to the original post, they are looking for earbuds without a microphone. If the building is actually "secure" (which is a ridiculous claim given that they are bringing in an electronic removable storage device in the first place), they won't allow passive microphone of the sort that can be created quite easily out of passive headphones. Highly relevant.

I wouldn't call it "technology." Microphone construction is quite simple. The trick is converting the audio into a useful format, which the iPod/headphone combination could do quite readily.

We also aren't allowed to bring more than 3.4 ounces of liquid in a bottle onto a plane. It's a stupid and arbitrary rule, but if I asked you what the limit was before I flew, would it be helpful to tell me that my metal belt buckle could be melted in to another state and would violate the same rule?

You cannot melt your belt buckle on the plane. In the OP's case they are bringing an electronic device into a "secure" building, which is a threat without any change of form (even discounting the microphone issue, as removable storage is a security threat in itself) as you do in your example.

Anything, in any building, policy or ruleset can be manipulated in someway. In hindsight maybe the word "secure" wasn't the correct choice. Maybe I should have said "controlled". Some people are too literal and can't handle walking away. We are in any manner only as secure as we think we are anyway right? As I said before certain risks are accepted, others are not. I get a long just fine with regular headphones, just wanted to find something with the remote and no mic.

Thanks again for the link, I'm likely going to be ordering those if I don't find a comparable solution.

Thanks for the reply. I've been doing some searching on ebay, but can't seem to come up with one.

EDIT: just found one, looks like it's for an ipod shuffle. I think I'll take a chance on it and see if it works on a newer iPod Nano.

There are some cheaper ones, but I thought those Sony ones didn't. Here's some that I am pretty sure don't. Assume they aren't great, but at least might work... Only thing I'm not really sure is if these ones still control the iPod volume or just have an in-line slider. I assume you would rather have the control, and I think the slider is in regards to the cable management, but I don't understand how that works. Here's a few...

So I bought this back in the day with the 4th generation shuffle. That silly damn thing.

I just tried it on my iPhone 4 to make sure it would work, it's fine. The plus side here is that you can use any headphones you want with it. No mic, it just adapts whatever earphones you use.

actually looking at the specs they have a mic.
maybe ones that work for the shuffle may be the way to go?
