Have a fully loaded 13" Air SSD. Started the bootcamp process. Plug in a Sony self-powered USB DVD drive. No response from the Macbook Air. Continue with bootcamp, bootcamp says no optical drive available for the Windows install.

Cancel bootcamp, try both usb ports, MBA still won't recognize the USB Sony DVD drive, no matter whether a DVD is in the drive.

Any idea what the issue is, or how to fix?

I have a cheap Asus Netbook USB powered optical drive which works with the Air. I think it was around $35 or so on Amazon.

Yeah I don't think the drive works with Mac. My Mac Pro didn't recognize it either. Thanks for the recs.

I hate this too. Never do I use an optical drive or media. The only thing I need it for: Windoze. Such a bummer.
