i don't use any on a daily basis.
but i'd say i boot up in 9 maybe once every 2 weeks.... only for the occasional app though. (artmatic, games, etc)

I've been a Mac user since May (yes, I'm a switcher), and the day I got my computer, I removed Classic. I don't like it at all. I never liked Mac OS before OS X. The only times I ever boot into OS 9 are when I boot from CD to do system maintenance and such.

If Microsoft would make an OS X version of OE, I'd probably boot into Classic once a month. As it stands, I need to boot into it every day. No, I'm not crazy about Mail.
Things I need Classic for (another than Outlook Express) are
a) AEPB + Cult Effects (which Adobe bought out but has yet to fully implement in the latest versions of AE),
b) FCP for capturing video (OS X's versions seems to give me problems with this),
c) And the occasional game that is not OS X-compatible.

I only use 9 to load flash card stuff, as the reader I have isn't X supported yet, though they swear it will be.
PS. if you are having problems capturing in FCp, dump your prefs in X, then check on your camera compatibility. I use a Canon Elura (fist model, still the best) sometiemes, and I have to install two seperate files (both on the FCP CD). When I use my GL-1, it works like a charm. If you still have problems, check 2-pop.com. Or post your issue on my site here (http://www.nashvillehiphop.com).
PPS. My film site is currently sharing space with my hip-hop site, so you have to go into the discussion forums to get to the Film stuff. There is a link on the front page.

I had to put in 0 - but if this had been weekly, I'd put one - StarryNightPro - I hope it gets updated soon.

Just Adobe PageMaker 7 for me.
To be quite honest, this works for me as even if I could afford inDesign, OSX doesn't support my Epson EPL5800L laser, so until then (though Epson UK told me to expect drivers this month).

Except for some computer games (Summoner, Baldur's Gate, Quest For Glory 5, Escape From Monkey Island), I have no reason to boot into OS 9 any longer. Pretty much everything and more that I need is on OS X. Pretty much the last three apps that I ever used under OS 9 now are on OS X in some way or form (Photoshop, Flash, Real Player). However, I've found that even since RealOne Beta came out, I haven't used it once...so I really haven't missed Real Player that much at all.

I use Timeslips as my only daily native classic app. I will abandon this, since Timeslips has abandoned the mac, but I'm reluctant because of the learning curve. There are probably Filemaker Pro templates that will work for me (I have a number of os9 computers on the network in my law office), and I imagine I will go down that road. In the meantime, Timeslips works very well in classic.
On the other hand, and this is WAY off topic, I find that Office v.X is VERY buggy in Jaguar.

not sure what your exact needs are but here are some apps a quick search turned up link (http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new_search.m?productDB=mac&mode=Quick&OS_Filter=MacOSX&search=billing)
and on another note... ive been writing in word for the past two hours and just had it crash [unexpectedly quit]. made me realize i havent had any application do that since i stopped using ie [ not including a early beta macromedia sent me of a app in early beta]. interesting that ms is the only developer i know to release final software that has such serious bugs [sp1 if ur wondering].

Nah, I've found that MS has been quite good at releasing buggy software. :) Especially when I started using OS X, IE 5 was about the only app which crashed. However, Netscape does a pretty fair job of unexpectedly crashing, too. Hopefully the full version of 7 is more stable than 7.0 Preview 1. But at least the OS doesn't crash! OS 8 and 9 rarely just died on themselves, but if an app was being particularly bad, then chances were good the entire computer would freeze up. A great example I found was the game The Forgotten (It Begins). That game crashed literally at least once every 5 minutes, and it would quite often lock up all of OS 9. So I just ran the game from OS X in Classic mode. If the game crashed, I would just restart it or Classic, and away I'd go. Another great reason to have OS X. :)

Netscape released the final version of Netscape on 31 august 2002.

Yes, I know. I just haven't used the final release version enough to really tell yet. I still mainly use Omniweb 4.1. I works well enough for most things, plus it is tons faster and more responsive than Netscape.

None daily but a few on a weekly basis;
- Norton Utilities once a week (to defrag)
- Starry Night Pro (when is an 'X' version due?!)
- TypeStyler (very cool type app', no 'X' version anounced yet)
- QuickTime 5 (some of my Divx movies wont play/won't convert properly in X)
- Poser & Amorphium once in a great while...
...das about it!

:) tried mozilla or chimera yet? version .5 of chimera is surprisingly usable for a 1/2 beta. moz is at 1.2a but i dont know how stable it is (alpha's can be buggy), but you could try 1.1b, its rock solid.

Still, it's much faster in 9...will this ever change?

perhaps another poll could be what do you use vpc for (or how many apps do you use in vpc). i have installed it from time to time as a novelty but never kept it around since i could never find a use for it. seems like the only apps that are not available for mac that are on the pc, have mac only alternatives that are better than the pc version.
i can never figure out why people use it. only good answer i got was that 'switchers' may take some time to buy all the new mac apps and so they need vpc until they can upgrade all their pc apps to mac apps.

Word (only because I do not have word X)
and
to scan because f'nnnn Umax hasn't gotten off its "A" to write and drivers... Next scanner I buy will not be a Umax.
Other than that it is ALL osx... BTW I use FCP3 and couldn't be happier with the X version.
However OSX needs to greatly improve its auio functionality. OS9 still is better for audio (No gain control. I don't have 10.2 yet but I have not heard that they have put gain back in)

I use VPC for only one thing. Games! I'm not talking about the latest games, either. I grew up with a Tandy 1000HX (running DOS 3, I believe). So, I tend to play a lot of DOS games. But I have also noticed that VPC for OS X runs slower than OS 9, so on some games, this does make enough of a difference that I need that extra bit of speed. Time to save up for a new, highly speedy PowerMac! Now if I can get a computer that can still run any PC game, new or old, I'll be set. :) But first I should probably get through my Mac games first.

:) VPC for games. i remember when i first bought my powerbook. this was a few years ago when macs still toasted pcs. i could run any pc apps on my computer through vpc faster than any pc could run them. those were good days. and not even all that long ago. when peopel complain abot the speeds of their macs and how 'apple is falling behind' i think they forget how recent a change this has been.

I had that problem w/ word in pre-jag osx.1.x until ms came out with its service release earlier this year, then all was well. I hope that ms will release another bugfix for this, which I think is jag related.

Coda Software's Finale. I really want an OS X-native version, but after contacting them, I was told not o expect it until "Late" 2003. That's pathetic. Looks like I will have to learn how to use Sibelius over Christmas break.

I use 9.2 every day, as I still use WP 3.5 for word processing, and PS7, Illustrator 10 and Word are all slow and/or buggy in X, I can't use my Epson 3000 and I can't use my Linoscan scanner either. Age of Empires in X runs VERY slowly and doesn't fill the screen of my ACD. If only someone could give us a good-looking and functional word processor in X I'd be relatively happy, but Word is god-awful, and AppleWorks is ugly as hell. I only really use X for OmniWeb, Mail and iPhoto. I'm glad I got my 10.2 free with my recent iBook purchase, because if time is money, it's already cost me several thousand groats. Come to think of it, 9.1 gave me a pretty stable set-up and left some processing space for my apps instead of using it all up on that saccharine GUI.

Quark "the bane of my existance" XPress. That program is such a love/hate thing with me. It is a very rapid design program when you are on deadline but its little quirks and freezes get in the way. I need to discipline myself to do a signinificant project in InDesign and get over the learning curve.

this isn't generally the way to do it...but Freehand does quite well for page layouts believe it or not...it does all u need it to for color separation and gives u ample control over page attributes...master pages...etc..
anyway...just a token of thought to steer u out of OS 9 ;)
