Hi

Is it normal for Kernel Tasks to take 79Mb of real memory and 915 of virtual memory? It seems very high. (1.40% CPU 41 Threads)

Next higest is Safari (70Mb Ram 250Mb VM)

I’m running Dreamweaver, Entourage and Safari.

1.25 Ghz G4 20’ Imac / Sys 10.3.8 / 768 MB Ram / 80 Gig HD

It's fine. Mine's at 92 and 870.

OS X is generally pretty good at organising its memory needs. Unless something gets very sluggish responding or you're low on HD space, just leave it to it and don't worry about it. 🙂

My kernel_task is using 52.25 MB real memory and 815.77 MB virtual memory - seems significantly lower than what you're reporting. At the time, Finder, Safari, iTunes, and Activity Monitor were the user-level applications running. All of the background processes except the Virex-related ones were using insignificant portions of CPU time (<1%).
