Any brand, Canoups, Dazzle, EyeTV, Formac, anything I can use with FIREWIRE. Used, new, whatever...I'm just looking for a cheap way to get some analog video onto my powerbook.

Thanks!

Hi,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20331&item=3876176459 JVC GRD90

This auction is just about to end, but if you can get a similar deal you'll be much better off than getting a Canopus / Dazzle / Formac product.

I've used a similar camcorder (JVC GRD70) for the same purpose. It functions as an analog to digital pass-through perfectly well. You just have to enable the A/V input and S-video in by way of the menus. It's easy.

I was looking for a device to convert analog to digital. I decided to go with a camera and use that to convert, as Rod Rid suggested. I paid more than that JVC but I wanted some extra features too.

Pinnacle makes the Movie Box which is which I have used with a PC though it is also Mac compatible. We have had some problems with it but it might be just the Pinnacle software. It costs about 200 USD, for 100 more USD you can find a new low-end camcorder that can also convert analogue to digital. The Movie Box also comes with Pinnacle Studio movie-editing software, which is useless without a PC, and IMHO just about useless with a PC. Ok that is harsh, but I find iMovie to be a much better program. I also looked at EyeTV but I don't need a tuner.
