I can't speak for your curriculum but my ipad helped me a lot with my science classes. My advice to you would be to go on the itunes store on your Mac and see if there are any apps for architects that will benefit you. I'm sure there are some out there.

I guess it depends on what you want to use it for. I love it for everything but graphic design and writing research papers.

Well for chemistry I used eleMints for a good reference to the periodic table. For AnP, I used various apps that teach you the locations of all the bones and muscles of the body. I also rented 2 textbooks last semester through the coursesmart app which meant that I always had my books with me when I had my ipad. There is also a blackboard app so you can access all your school's blackboard features as long as they support it. I also had various video podcasts on it so I can watch lectures that I downloaded from itunes. I never used it to record my own class lectures though. I use my MBP for that.

Well you don't have to carry around a laptop. You can take notes, write emails, access files via Dropbox, and there are Apps for justmabout everything else. Would I survive without an iPad? Yes, but I am enjoying it.

You can load it up with 1000s of photos of your favorite buildings and other design inspirations, and take pictures of new inspirations. This alone is worth the price of admission in my book. You can bet if Cesar Pelli had the chance to own an iPad 30 years ago, he'd have jumped at it.

?I want to use mine when I get one mainly as a digital sketchpad, or to use the Animation apps to rehone my skills.

I see the iPad as being moreso for creative types. Though I can't operate it just by touch, need a stylus to draw on it the way I'm used to.
