Can I upgrade my iMac from os 10.4 to 10.5.7 using a mac book pro insall DVD?

I have both the os install disk and the applications install disk that I've borrowed from a friend, just unsure whether these will be compatible on an iMac. If someone could shed some light on this it would save me a lot of hassle
 
So will I be able to use a os disk from a new iMac or can I only use one from the particular model I have?
 
The model you have. Read that link, do a search, as this question is asked frequently and the answer never changes.
