Yeah, I figured everyone has at least a 1024x768 display, so posting an 800x600 image would be bearable (I've got to show off my desktop ;)).

There are still flurries of snow out there so I have some icebergs that I took from a plane window at 37,000 feet.... and then some trees for when it feels a little more springlike.

I have about 50 pictures of Beksinski's artwork that I rotate since he just died (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/apeurope_story.asp?category=1103&slug=Obit%20Beksinski)
This just happened to be the one showing when I took the screen shot. If other people want to see his artwork I could put up a zip of all the ones I have.

I like it.

Cool idea with incorporating the letterboxed picture. A couple questions:

1. What icons are those? Where did you get them?
2. How did you manage the placement of those four? (centered etc)

Forgive my ignorance, but I'd like to incorporate something similar.
Thanks.

1. The icon pack is called Litho system from the iconfactory (http://iconfactory.com)

2. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'those four'. Do you mean the shortcuts to home, movies, pictures etc? If that is the case, you have to uncheck 'snap to grid' under view -> show view options (apple + j). make sure you have the desktop selected and not a finder window ;)

I must say that you have an awesome taste for music steve. I am loving those Bob Dylan covers...:)Many thanks! This is merely sampling of my Bob collection. Over the last 10 years I've collected all of his officially released stuff and approximately 300...um...not-so-released discs. I'm very disappointed that I won't be able to see his next tour with Merle Haggard (which will be the first time in 10 years that Bob has played within 200 miles of my home and I did not go).

Dang...I'm a loser!

For anyone that cares--I made that wallpaper using Clutter...arranged all the album windows, took a screenshot and then made the screenshot my desktop. The album in the bottom right, when I have Clutter open (which I don't in this particular photo), is always the album that iTunes is playing.

I like the idea of the desktop changing completely to reflect the current playing song--any ideas how I might do this.

Those are beautiful, having been born and raised in San Luis Obispo, and currently living there, I am always glad to be reminded of the natural beauty right in my own back door.

Your Morro Rock desktop is now my new background. Maybe you will eventually get around to making a 1920x1200 res version for my 23" display, that would be tops. :D

I already had all of them anyways except for the wallpaper and the garfield icon... and I've had the Sonomatic brand of wallpapers for a while... so it's not like I searched every site on the internet or something for them. I just checked iconfactory for garfield and i went to the somatic site for the wallpaper. But I think you should feel good about it that people like the style of your setup. How did you do that? Do you use a special program or did you just put all the images togethor in photoshop? As mentioned in a previous post in this thread, I used a program called Clutter (available from versiontracker). This program creates little windows of album artwork. When you double-click the window it opens the album in iTunes. SO, I opened the albums in clutter, arranged them...took a screenshot...then tweaked it a bit in photoshop to make it look nice. The actual image is a little less than 1024x768, I have it set to "Tile" in the desktop prefs.

Well no actually, but what your speaking of sounds wonderful..this actually is a play based on the novel of the same name which is real life tribute to a 9 year old Japanese girl whos name was Sadako. She died from atom bomb syndrom (basically luekemia) and while she was sick her friend (Kenji) told her if she folds 1,000 origami cranes she is granted one wish...which would be becoming heathy again obviously. Sadly she ends up dieing before she finishes, but her friends finish all the rest and a memorial is made in her memory.

I have two questions.

One, looking at some of the desktops, I see the MS Office logo in the dock. Is this a way to access all the Office programs but just have one icon? It can't be a folder because that would be put on the right side of the divider. I would love to be able to have quick access to all the office programs but not have 4 icons in the dock. So what is it? Here are examples:

http://img39.exs.cx/img39/3936/marchdesktop1ko.jpg

http://img39.exs.cx/img39/6287/march6ni.jpg

And second, who is this woman???

I can answer the second question for you!

This is my desktop for the month, The pictures alternate.

The girl is called Evangeline Lilly and co-stars in the new abc series Lost.

If you like her, last night after ages of searching I found very large pictures of her in another forum,
Click Here! (http://www.genmay.com/showthread.php?t=486184) I took some of these pictures and changed the sizes so they complimented my res.

Whilst I'm here I will answer you first Question, that icon is the project gallery launcher. Its that anoying thing that pops up when you first open any microsoft office program, of course I've disabled on mine.

Where did you find that image, and is there a widescreen version available (or a large enough starting point to make one)? I really like the framing and balance of that image, but ALL of my monitors are 16:10. Thanks :).

All of you Mac people should know how to take a screenshot of your background by now. Just hold down the shift+command+4 key and press the spacebar. After that click on your background. Then, on your desktop, you'll have an image file of your wallpaper; disregarding anything else like icons or the dock.

Anyway here is my background image.

I used to think it was annoying, until I started using it from my dock (and actually using the Projects feature as well). Basically, it allows you to open a new file of any kind from one window, as well as let you open the files you've used recently. I don't like having my dock absolutely huge, so that's why I switched over.

And in case you're wondering where the program is in the first place, go to the Microsoft Office 2004:Office folder. It's the Project Gallery Launcher program.

You could use Flyakite Software, 1 clean installation, even makes the start up chime and login screen like mac os x. Install stardock, move the task bar on top of the screen and it looks like mac os x, and its free.

It comes with an uninstall program, so I assume it will be easy to uninstall, the software itself is very good and leaves my system running very smoothly, had no problems with it so far and have been using it for about a month. Stardock is very good as well. the best thing about these programs
1) no spyware etc...
2) they are free
3) do not conflict with other programs

In terms of going back to the original styling of windows xp, you can go to the control panel>display>appearance and just change the styling to windows xp default and it reverts back on my system anyway.

So this is just an extra theme, it doesn't change system files?

As it says on their website:

The installer simply automates the process of replacing critical system files, setting registry tweaks, and installing extras such as cursors, sounds, visual styles, etc. In case you are not happy with the results of FlyakiteOSX, everything is completely removable. Just run the uninstaller from the Start Menu or from Add/Remove Programs.

FlyakiteOSX does not contain any spyware or ad-ware of any kind. All files needed for FlyakiteOSX are stored in the Windows directory in a folder named 'FlyakiteOSX' that is hidden by default. All registry values for FlyakiteOSX are written to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\FlyakiteOSX.

then again it says:Everything is completely uninstallable through the uninstaller.

Thats all I can tell you really, Just uninstalled it on my windows xp computer, just went back to normal, restarted it normal, installed flyakite back on, fine.
