Comment: This is an amazing song, from an album that doesn't get its due because the songs are all untitled. The sweet and uncompromised melody is amazing, and is balanced together by saoothing instruments.

I own the entire album and it's great. It's hard to pick out key tracks since they are all untitled, but it's great to listen to all at once.

Wait. Is this the album () ?

The white one with the beautifully-designed booklet?

I love that CD -- however, if it's the same one, CDDB gave me a full track listing...

Weird, CDDB gave me "Untitled" 1-8, and the name of the CD is "()"

The track names aren't official, although they do seem to have stuck. As I understand it, they were simply working titles, used by the band prior to the release of ( ).

Blue: There are a couple of errors in the track listing that CDDB provided. The last two tracks should read as follows:

Dauðalagið [The Death Song]
Popplagið [The Pop Song]

By the way, for those interested, you can download free recordings (legally) from sigur-ros.co.uk (http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/media/index.html).

--------------------

Edit: I'm not sure whether all browsers will render the small 'eth' correctly, and there doesn't appear to be an OS X shortcut. If you open International and show the Icelandic Keyboard Viewer, it's the character to the right of the P.

Cheery fellows.

Thnx for the info, Brize.

Cheery fellows.

On that note, there's also Dánarfregnir og Jarðarfarir (Death Announcements and Funeral Arrangements) from the Angels of the Universe (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233651/) soundtrack.

Great film, by the way.

how do you prounounce those track names?? Maybe I'll still to Untitled 1-8. It's kinda mysterious, I like the fact that I don't know what they're singing about....

The lyrics on ( ) don't have any literal meaning, so they're not really singing about anything, as such.

From sigur-ros.co.uk (http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk):

hopelandic (vonlenska in icelandic) is the 'invented language' in which jónsi sings before lyrics are written to the vocals. it's of course not an actual language by definition (no vocabulary, grammar, etc.), it's rather a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument. jónsi likens it with what singers sometimes do when they've decided on the melody but haven't written the lyrics yet.

Ágætis Byrjun was sung mostly in Icelandic, bar Olsen Olsen, which like ( ), was sung in Hopelandic.

You're welcome. :)

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's pronounced 'th'. I know we have some forum members from Iceland, so maybe one of them will post to confirm or correct.

sigur ros are fantastic, particularly the ( ) album. my favorite is untitled 3. you'll notice the album has two moods as well, untitled 1-4 are more upbeat and 5-8 are less hopeful. the pause between 4 & 5 was purposely put there to divide the moods.

its pronounced si-ur rose, with the 'ros' being said quickly and without emphasis. the i in sigur is like the i in 'hit.'

My favorite song from () is Untitled 3. I love that piano solo. From Agaetis Byjun I especially like Svefn-g-englar and Viðrar vel til loftárása.

And they have a new album coming out in the Spring of this year sometime! SQUEEEEE!

Ágætis Byrjun is probably my second favorite album of all time (first being Joni Mitchell's "Hejira" and third being Mogwai's "Happy Songs for Happy People"). "( )" is also a fantastic CD. I hear their next effort will be somewhere half-way between the concept album status of ( ) and the more accessible Ágætis Byrjun. I can't wait.

Also, MUST SEE THEM ON TOUR. Mogwai too. I hear both are fantastic live.

I've not seen Mogwai, but I saw Sigur Rós play Bristol University in October 2002. It was a stunning gig, and the first time I'd heard some of the tracks from ( ). Do go and see them if you get the chance.

That one (#3) is also my favorite. There's a live version on their latest album.
