Overall I am very happy with this. I needed it for a biz meeting and they came thru. I had to pay expedited shipping but was worth it. They included a note that frames from now on will be rounded on corners and if I want to return this one, no sweat. Ipad fits fine even with icarbon back. Love the black frame and what I liked about treegloo from the start, I hate light wood. I'd give it a 9 outta 10 - quality first rate - this is killer red/indy adventure/ebony frame - more review after I take it on the road for 5 days. BTW - no patented "sound chamber" but sound is fine for me.

Pics loaded bottom to top so start down there....

I'm glad to see your note about the fact that the corners would be rounded because I don't like how the corner is sticking out. How well is the ipad held into the case?

the note enclosed says insert right side first, then left - locks in nicely - did the upside down shake test and no problem - for me I'm not worried, as this is my boardroom/courtroom case so It will go straight to the folded back typing position and no others...

Thanks for photos, been waiting for those. Unfortunately, 7 & 8 shows how poorly made it is. Definetly looks cheap. Shame, cause I wanted one. Maybe light wood would look better.

If so I may spring for photoshop.

Not loving the corners, but they changed them you said so that's good.

How's the sound coming out from the iPad 2's speaker?

fine but I don't know how you hear sound, so it's a question that really can't be answered here - no muffling to me.

And as far as cheap - the base on this case is $35 - that's less than all the others and shots were taken with a macro lens - from the normal eye, the quality is fine:

A couple of questions:

How's the typing angle?

Vertical stand stability OK?

Is the ipad fairly easy to remove (if you intend to remove it)?
I'd actually like to use a Treegloo for transport and stand purposes mainly, but would like to use it outside of the case as often as possible. So I'm hoping that I can just have it in the case to carry around campus but take it out when I'm at home.

Thanks!

Must be the reflective nature of the photos but that dark wood looks painted. Is it really that shiny? If so I think I'd take my chances with hand staining a Portenzo with a matte varnish as I'm not a fan of shiny wood. Glad to hear the corners hold well, they lol uneven in the photos though,

Why would you want a case that essentially turns the ipad into the size of small laptop? Kinda defeats some of the +'s of having an ipad no?

I think there's something cool to mixing all that tech with something old like an old leather-bound book.

I thought the same thing when I first saw those pics. I am starting to second think the TreeGloo. It almost looks like an afterthought cutout of rubber strips. I am curious how that will hold up for people planning to remove the iPad from the case often. Will it wear down or will the adhesive eventually give?

Such a tough choice, Treegloo, Portenzo, or Octavo. Maybe some more pics will help.

UPDATE: I just noticed that on all of Treegloo pictures on their site and FB page, they don't show those corners in any detail. Either oversight or on purpose. Thanks for posting them on here!

Not too bad for a $35 case.

Stain is a bit shiny for my taste (although might be lighting) and the corners look as bad as the Portenzos. Maybe we now know why no other case maker is staining this wood.

Pad & Quill is looking better and better lately.

EDIT: Also looks like corner of wood sticks out past the cover a bit. I think them not rounding the wood frame is huge non starter for me. but again, for $35 better than most out there.

Got this back from treegloo with some of the questions here:

To answer your questions about the rubber, we use a hard, dense natural rubber that is resistant to wear under heavy use. It can be compressed repeatedly, and return to its original form. The adhesive we use for the rubber is so strong, the only way to remove the rubber would be to destroy it or the frame.

As far as the uneven rubber thickness is concerned: we strive to get an accurate fitment, however, wood expands and contracts differently than aluminum, so each frame may fit differently than the next. To insure they fit properly, we tailor fit each frame to make sure the iPad will be square and centered in the frame. The thickness variance in the rubber is 1/32".

If you are detail-oriented, we recommend going with an accent. The accents grip the iPad around its full perimeter, making for a secure fit. The suede also completely conceals the rubber that lines the entire frame -- not just the corners.

I have included an image of the corners of a suede accent frame from our previous Series 1 frames.

Thanks for the post Glen. Looks like the lining is the way to go if the rubber bumpers is a concern.

I am having a hard time choosing a good color combo for a white iPad. I was definitely thinking natural wood, but am on the fence on everything else. Anyways, thanks for the pics and best of luck to everyone on their quest for the perfect iPad 2 case!

Thanks, it a nice case for the money - not married to it, I'll compare to my portenzo made currently of unobtanium when I get it. People seem to be in search of the one perfect case. I'm not opposed to having several for several diff events. Being red, it will be my "light business case" meaning everyday use. Big contract $$ meetings will be the more conservative, demure black portenzo.

Talked to Treegloo (nice people) today and told them of the concerns here on the corners and glossy finish. They certainly are responsive. Here what they wrote and pics of the changes that will be on every case being shipped as of today. These corners are also less edgy and square.

After I spoke to you, we made a few tweaks today as well. We retooled the rubber corners for a cleaner finish, so your replacement case will have this new design. We even updated all the orders, including the ones that shipped today. Additionally, we have also changed the ebony's finish to be satin over gloss.

Quick pictures as they were being assembled and shipped out.

"Actually, the case in the picture is one of yours (before we stamped the serial number). ;-)

Banging my head against my desk because I can't decide on whether I'd like to go with Pad and Quill, Portenzo, or Treegloo.

I like Pad and Quill's rounded corners, Portenzo's everything (aside from customer service and shipping dates), and Treegloo's options.

And everyday when I go to Treegloo's site to build a case, I can't decide for the life of me the colors I want. Too many choices! blah!

I'm in the same boat KylePowers. I am waiting for TreeGloo's announcement of their new latches/magnet system. I am hoping it's something like Portenzo's magnagrip. But I don't like that they don't have a speaker cutout like the other two. Also hard to choose on the options.

I kind of like Pad&Quill's pocket option (to store a microfibre), but wish they had a MagnaGrip type option like Portenzo. Choices on colors are limited.

For Portenzo, everything seems perfect, but almost looks like a crapshoot on when you would get yours if you order. Based on Facebook it seems like some people get their order before people that ordered earlier, all depending on what they ordered. Also I read in the FaceBook discussion on how someone didn't get the options they ordered and Darin and co. not responding to inquiries about it. That scares me.

I have a white iPad, so for a while I was leaning toward the 23 1/2 from Portenzo or the unicorn white Treegloo, but worry it will get dirty fast. So I think a black cover, natural wood combo will do. I like some kind of blue or gray inside lining, but the TreeGloo paris paper liner looks cool, but then I worry about the paper tearing if I fold the case over too many times. Read about that happening to someone with an iPad 1 case from them.

Ok I rambled on, but I am hoping to see some pics of white iPads in cases from all three to help me decide. Good luck on the case hunting!

not getting a new case - all the changes made here I would want if did not have my case yet, but not worth the back and forth with them. In person, it looks great the way it is for me, I don't have to have the latest and greatest.

A small bit of 0000 steel wool on the frame knocked off all the gloss so it looks just like the improved version does now.

of course it will - the new corners have nothing to do with the depth of the frame - one of the big thick zaggs may have a problem but not the icarbon - also a film that completely comes up to the edge may present a problem as a frame needs the edge to grab the rubber - the icorbon leaves about 1/16" bare around the frame edge so the rubber grabs fine...

Just ordered my case.
Espresso cover.
Natural wood, brown suede accent.
Whatever the darkest blue is (forgot the name) on the inside. Just the classic paper.
Looking forward to whatever latch announcement they'll be making but, unless it's something considerably more interesting than the Magnagrip that Portenzo has, I'll stick with the standard elastic.

I know you said the Treegloo withstood the shake test, but is it relatively easy to remove the iPad once it's in the case?

I'm planning on using my iPad without a case while at home and (hopefully) using a Treegloo when I'm out and about. Basically, I'm looking for something that will hold the iPad firmly when in use, but won't fall apart and/or require Herculean strength to remove each time.

I'm using it the same way - in the case for a normal biz day and out when home - it inserts right side first and then locks in place on the left with slightly thicker rubber. It's secure, but not hard to get out when you need it to.

OK well I'm in the same boat. I actually ordered a private order of the SeventySix from Portenzo...amazing! but they sent me the case for iPad; I have iPad 2 so I had to send it back. I know several of the other cases (Portenzo and Pad & Quill) have little chambers to basically redirect the sound more towards the user making it sound louder/better. It doesn't seem like the Treegloo cases have anything to do that. Can you comment on that? Is the sound improved over a naked ipad?

Check out the new latch options on their Facebook page. Magnetic only and a "kinetic latch". I think I might try the kinetic latch.

yah I told them to add it to my order. Don't know how much the upgrade is, but I know it's more.

I added is as well, it's $5 for people who are changing their order. If your ordering from scratch it's $9.50. I'm glad they added this option it always seemed like something obvious these type of case makers should add. Maybe because I love standing my iPad up in landscape.

The 1st week of August I ordered and paid Treegloo by Visa . After a month I was informed it "was too hot in Texas" and the curing process was affected. I was promised the following week. It is now coming up to 8 weeks and my order has still yet to leave the factory! Really was use are all the fine words and claims of fine craftsmanship if company can't meet delivery dates?
These overheated underworked Texans do not lie --- but they sure are "economical with the truth"!
Best order elsewhere where you actually get something you paid for!

O.K. Within 24 hours of posting on "MACRUMOURS" ( ^^^see above ^^^) Treegloo emails(after nearly 8 weeks delay) & cancels the case order. Because
"your most recent conduct with perceived notions and insults, we prefer to discontinue any business with you." Money .... will be ... refunded.

Get the message (?)--- pay your money--- shut-up about delays ---- so they keep my money for 8 weeks are a general nuisance & an annoyance and YOU are to blame.
Baby Jesus just vomited!
