Does anyone know where I can get or what ethernet drivers would be good for System 7.1. I'm trying to get my old Color Classic internet bound and I'm halfway there. Have the HW, but need the SW.

If it's Apple hardware, all drivers should be built into the system software. I'd suggest upgrading your system software to the newest version it can run and see if that fixes the problem. Is there some reason you are using 7.1 instead of 7.5.x or 7.6?

7.1 is the most stable version of System 7. However I may have to do that update to 7.5.5 to get the drivers. Luckily Apple still has that as a free download on their site.

IF it's one of the old Asanté PDS adapters, their site should have the driver under their legacy section.

Apple gives out 7.5.5 free. Should see if that has the drivers you want. For a computer of that age, most everything is free.

OS 8 and OS 9 driver's won't work with System 7. Major architectural differences between 7 and 8. (Well, 7 and 8.5 but still)

OS 8 and OS 9 were fairly similar. System 7 is way different.

Damn. Looks like I'll have to go the 7.5.5 update route. I was hoping to avoid it because the update is 23 MB and the HD is only 40 MB

Here's an old setting up ethernet guide from 1996

Very easy to strip stuff out of it. When you do the initial install you can cut it down to 10 MB I think if you are really frugal in your instal.
